The National Identification Management Commission (NIMC) has finalized arrangements to start free registration of pupils and students in public schools across Kano State.

The registration will cover pupils and students in primary, junior, and secondary schools.

Upon completion, the students will be issued with NIN, which is essential for various transactions and examinations, including WAEC and NECO.

NIMC’s Regional Coordinator, Emmanuela Igbinovia, met with stakeholders in the state ministry of education to discuss the project’s modalities.

The commission requires information on school names, principals’ names, and phone numbers to facilitate the registration process.

The commission will distribute forms to parents, which will be filled, validated, and submitted before the registration exercise.

A day will be announced for registration and capturing, followed by printing of NIMC slips for each pupil/student.

The project aims to increase Kano State’s enrollment figure and enable pupils/students to obtain NIN within a short period.

The State Coordinator, Garba Balarabe, mentioned that Lagos State currently leads Kano with approximately 2.2 million enrollments, but this new development could change the statistics.

The State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, assured the commission of the state government’s support and commitment to ensuring a smooth registration exercise.

The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammed, urged parents and stakeholders to work together to ensure pupils/students are duly registered for NIN.
