The Nigeria Customs Service, Kano/Jigawa Area Command, has successfully intercepted a large consignment of pangolin scales weighing 420 kilograms in a suburb of Kano metropolis.
The operation, carried out on July 16, 2025, was a result of a joint effort between customs officers and other relevant agencies.
Customs Area Controller, Abubakar Dalhat, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Kano, stating that the seizure represents a significant blow to criminal supply chains and sends a strong message to traffickers that wildlife crime will not be tolerated.
The Customs Service remains committed to safeguarding Nigeria’s environment and rich wildlife heritage, as mandated by Section 55 of the Nigerian Customs Service Act 2023.
The service will continue to enhance surveillance and employ technological tools to combat wildlife crimes effectively.
The Customs Area Controller appreciated the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, for his leadership and support in the operation, as well as international partners, including the Regional International Liaison Office and Focus Conservation, for their assistance.
This significant seizure underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in protecting endangered species and preserving Nigeria’s natural resources for future generations
