Police Report Drop in Crime, Unveil 2,000 Suspected Drug Dealers in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has reported a significant decline in criminal activities across the state in the first quarter of 2026, attributing the development to improved strategies and collaboration with stakeholders.

Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this on Tuesday during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Bompai, Kano, where he outlined the security situation and achievements recorded within the period.

Bakori said the command’s restructuring had enhanced efficiency and service delivery, enabling faster response to emerging threats, while its 2026 roadmap—anchored on community policing, intelligence-led operations, and capacity building—was already yielding positive results.

He highlighted the success of “Operation Kukan Kura” in curbing thuggery and violence, adding that joint efforts with the state government and other security agencies had prevented bandits’ infiltration and helped resolve farmers-herders clashes through dialogue.

The commissioner further revealed that several suspects linked to armed robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, and cybercrime had been arrested and prosecuted, while stolen properties were recovered.

He added that over 2,000 suspected drug dealers had been identified through intelligence gathering and were being profiled for possible action.

Bakori appreciated the support of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and residents, assuring that the command would sustain efforts to ensure the state remains safe and secure.
