Wudil (Kano State), Minister of Police Affairs, Sen. Ibrahim Gaidam, has said that practical strategies must be adopted to enhance the Police Cadet performance for effective policing.
He said this on Monday during a meeting with the management and staff of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil in Kano State.
Geidam said that such strategies should focus on enhanced training and education; mentorship and guidance, ethics and professionalism, physical and wellness programmes as well as community engagement and practical experience.
He said that his visit to the Academy was to address crucial matter to it’s mission – the improvement of the Police Cadets’ performance that would shape the future leaders of law enforcement in Nigeria.
“As we thrive to produce well-disciplined and professionally sound Police Cadet, it is imperative that we collectively embark on a journey of transformation and innovation in our approach,” he said.
According to Geidam, the task is not easy but a noble one, adding that by implementing these strategies and working together as a team, they can shape the future leaders of law enforcement in the country.
This, he said, would prepared the Police Cadet to uphold the values of justice, integrity and service to humanity.
“As members of the Nigeria Police Academy, you are not only educators but also mentors to the future leaders of our Police Force. Your guidance, wisdom and experience will have a lasting impact on the Cadets under your care,” he said.
Gaidam tasked the school management to embrace this role with a sense of responsibility and dedication, adding that the future of the Police Force depend on the values and skills imparted to the next generation.
The Minister also expressed satisfaction with the effort of the management led by the Commandant, AIG Sadiq Abubakar for turning round the institution.
“So far so good, I am very pleased with the level of academic and training of young police officers in our institution.
“We will continue to support the management to enable the institution to produce well train police officers, to complement the efforts of the Federal Government in the promotion of peace, progress and political stability in our father land.
Earlier, Abubakar said the institution was doing well in realising its objectives.
He said that with the commitment and continued support of the Federal Government through the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Academy had vigorously pursue policies focused on making it one of the best Police Training Institutions in Africa.
“And repositioning it to take the lead in innovative practices, research, training, modern policing and quality education,” he said.
The Commandant, however, identified shortage of academic and directing staff, lack of staff quarters,
inadequate science and language laboratories, and non completion of major projects as some of the challenges bedevilling the institution.
