Yusuf condoles Sokoto govt, Sultan over death of ex-minister Abubakar Alhaji

Kano – July 30, 2026 – Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has condoled with the Sokoto State Government, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, and the people of Sokoto State over the death of former Minister of Finance, Abubakar Alhaji.
This was contained in a condolence message issued on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Alhaji died on Thursday in a hospital in Abuja after a brief illness. He was also a former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and held the traditional title of Sardaunan Sokoto.
Governor Yusuf described the deceased as an accomplished public servant, economist and diplomat whose service as Minister of Finance and High Commissioner to the UK left an enduring legacy in the country’s economic management, diplomacy and public administration.
The governor noted that the late Sardaunan Sokoto devoted his life to the service of Nigeria and the development of Sokoto State, and earned respect through his integrity and commitment to national progress.
He said the death of the former minister was a loss to Sokoto State and to Nigeria considering his contributions to public service, economic development and nation-building over several decades.
Governor Yusuf prayed to Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his family, the government and people of Sokoto State, and the nation the fortitude to bear the loss.
