Police seek media support for crime-free society

Kano, Mr Hussaini Gumel, the Commissioner of Police in Kano, has solicited for continued support of working journalists in the state to ensure crime-free society.
Gumel spoke while hosting head of media organisations at his office, on Wednesday in Kano.
According to him, such partnership with the journalists is very essential, as the media is a critical partner in the fight against crime and criminality.
The CP said the objective of the meeting was to forge more collaboration with the media to enable the command flush out criminal elements in the society
He said, “media campaign is critical in any fight against crime, and that is why, immediately I assumed Office, the media is the first set of people I invited which we met in this office.
“It is only with media campaign and propagation that our successes are made known to the general public, so that they will have confidence in the system.
“I want to assure you of our continued support and cooperation in fighting crime”.
He said credible intelligence indicated that some faceless people want to set to forment trouble in the state after the Supreme Court Judgement on the governorship election.
Gumel said the command adopted proactive measures to prevent any form of political violence during and after the court judgement.
While enjoying residents of the state to be law abiding and tolerate one another, Gumel urged them to report criminal activities to the police.
“We will not relent in our effort to deal with any persons or group of people threatening the peaceful coexistence our state was known for.
“All forms of criminal activities would be curbed if residents volunteer credible information to the police on suspicious persons or acts in their environment.
“Stakeholders should also support and partner with the police by providing useful information that would lead to crime bursting.
“Our primary role is to secure lives and property of residents and we have set in motion security modalities that will deal with any form of security threats.
Gumel reiterated the commitment of the command to enhance community policing to encourage residents to volunteer information that would aid in apprehending criminal elements.
