The Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago represented by the deputy governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba who was emotional considering the ages of the inmates assuring to protect all in the society and desist from what will return them to the correctional center.
He disclosed this at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (Old) Minna during the discharge of the inmates yesterday, called for proper reintegration in to the society.
Comrade Garba appealed to the inmates to make use of their freedom by engaging in useful ventures and shun any act that could lead them back to correctional facility and implored them to be law-abiding citizens and engage in legitimate endeavours.
Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government SSG, Alhaji Abubakar Usman said that Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger state has approved the payment of fines for the discharge of the 80 inmates spread across various Correctional Centres in the state.
Alhaji Abubakar Usman explained that the payment of fine for the discharge of the inmates by the Governor was in line with power of Prerogative of Mercy as guaranteed under the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Controller, Corrections Niger state, Commandant Abdulkadir Salman appreciated the Niger State government for given a second chance to the freed inmates who were reformed and rehabilitated, however charged on the society to avoid stigmatization of the ex- inmates.
One of the discharger inmate Danjuma Dan Kambari in an interview appreciated the Niger state governor, Mohammed Umar Bago for his kind gesture and assured to be better citizens.
