The Kano State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, has revealed that 29 schools in 7 local government areas are currently benefiting from the Climate Resilient Infrastructure for Basic Services (CRIBS) Project.

The project is being implemented with the support of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Kano State.

The schools, located in Tudun Wada, Kiru, Gezawa, Dawakin Tofa, Ungogo, Nassarawa, and Sumaila, local government areas are receiving upgrades that include construction and rehabilitation of classrooms using climate-resilient materials, inclusive features for learners with disabilities, safe water, and gender-sensitive sanitation facilities.

The CRIBS initiative also provides solar-powered borehole systems and promotes tree planting to create sustainable learning environments.

Dr. Makoda noted that the project not only enhances the physical learning environment but also contributes to pupil retention, safety, and climate resilience.

The Commissioner thanked UNICEF and FCDO for the intervention, promising sustainability, full ownership, and expansion.

He stated that the project aligns with the vision of Governor Yusuf to reposition the education sector to be more inclusive, equitable, and forward-looking.
