Groups Rebuke Police over Emir Sanusi Summons, Demand Neutrality and Respect for Traditional Institutions

The Coalition of Concerned Kano Civil Society Groups (CCKCSG) has condemned the Nigeria Police Force’s (NPF) growing politicization in the ongoing Kano Emirate crisis. 

They expressed deep concern over the police’s alleged bias and political interference in traditional affairs, particularly in the summons issued to Emir Sanusi, which was later withdrawn due to public outcry.

The Public Relations Officer of the Group  Mr Nura Idris Ali, decried the police’s reference to Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II as “Alhaji Sanusi” in official communications, omitting his traditional title.

” Politicization of the Police, The group criticized the NPF’s contradictory enforcement of court orders, selective protest bans, and biased deployment of security personnel in the emirship dispute.

Federal Interference, The coalition condemned the reported deployment of federal security forces to protect the deposed Emir Bayero and incendiary remarks made by opposition politicians.

“Demands and Urgency,

The CCKCSG demands an immediate public apology from the NPF and a formal commitment to address the monarch by his rightful title. 

They also urge the Inspector General of Police and relevant authorities to restore public trust by upholding neutrality and respecting traditional institutions.

The coalition appeals to stakeholders to embrace dialogue over confrontation, emphasizing the police’s role in defusing tensions, not escalating them. 

They pledge to continue monitoring developments and mobilize further action if necessary to restore dignity, promote justice, and ensure peace in Kano.
