Kano, Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State has described the endorsement of Sen. Kawu Sumaila by the people of Kano South Senatorial District as a sign of a sweeping victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, in Kano on Tuesday.
Yusuf made the remark at a Grand Endorsement Gathering organised by stakeholders from Kano South to formally declare Sen. Kawu Sumaila as the party’s sole flag bearer.
Dawakin-Tofa said the event was held at Rano Township Stadium and attended by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The governor said the endorsement, which followed the recent reconciliation between Sen. Sumaila and Alhassan Rurum, reflected growing unity within the party.
He assured residents that the area would continue to benefit from large-scale development projects aimed at improving living standards.
“The present administration has designed extensive programmes for the teeming youth of the state ahead of 2027 to ensure their ambitions are fully realised,” he said.
Yusuf announced the approval to convert the Rano Rural and Community Development Institute into a Federal Polytechnic and disclosed plans to upgrade Rano General Hospital to a Federal Medical Centre.
The governor said the institutions would accelerate growth and development in the region.
He added that the existing infrastructure of the Rano Rural and Community Development Centre would be relocated to Takai Constituency to expand educational opportunities.
The governor commended the growing acceptance of the “Kano First” slogan across the state’s local government areas, noting that his administration’s goal was to restore Kano’s values and strengthen unity among the people.
He praised party stakeholders and supporters for ensuring a peaceful endorsement process and pledged his full support to secure victory for the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
In their remarks, Sen. Kawu Sumaila, Alhassan Rurum, and Alhassan Doguwa pledged loyalty to the governor and assured him that Kano South would deliver victory for him, President Tinubu, and all APC candidates in the next elections.
Other dignitaries present included the representative of the APC National Chairman, Garba Datti Muhammad; Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Dr Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure; and Chairperson of Kano State ALGON, Hajiya Sa’adatu Salisu Yushau.
