Gov.Yusuf Launches Initiative to Combat Child Malnutrition

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has taken a significant step towards addressing child malnutrition by reactivating Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) centers across all 44 Local Government Areas.
This initiative aims to provide critical support to over 17,000 children suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition.
Reactivation of CMAM Centers*: After an eight-year hiatus, the centers will provide lifesaving treatment and care to malnourished children.
The state government has contributed N500 million to UNICEF, facilitating the procurement of 12,948 cartons of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF).
Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week*: The government is scaling up this initiative, providing essential supplements and healthcare services to vulnerable populations.
Commitment to Child Survival Governor Yusuf emphasized his administration’s commitment to child survival and development, describing the neglect of malnourished children as “unacceptable.”
UNICEF commended Kano State for its significant contribution to the Child Nutrition Fund (CNF).
UNICEF reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the Kano State Government to address nutrition and health challenges.
UNICEF urged the government to consider additional initiatives, including a second round of Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week and increased support for nursing mothers.
