Yusuf to receive NMA highest fellowship award Tuesday

Kano, Gov.Abba Yusuf of Kano State will be conferred with the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) highest fellowship award in Katsina State on Tuesday.
The award is in recognition of his exceptional support for advancing healthcare services in the state.
This is contained in a statement by his spokesperson, Mr Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa in Kano on Monday.
Dawakin-Tofa said that Yusuf was informed by the State Commisioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Yusuf of the award for his commitment to health development.
He said that commissioner revealed that the Kano State Branch of the NMA had earlier conferred an Award of Excellence on the governor ahead of the national event in Katsina.
The commissioner said while presenting the award, the Chairman of the State NMA, Dr. Abdurrahman Ali, emphasised that Yusuf’s transformative impact on the health sector is unmatched.
He cited notable achievements, including the provision of free healthcare services at Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital and Marmara Primary Healthcare Centre among others.
Ali commended Yusuf for introducing a salary scale for medical doctors in the state that surpasses that of their counterparts at the federal level, underscoring the administration’s prioritisation of healthcare workers’ welfare.
He lauded initiatives such as the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Scheme and the establishment of the new Disease Control Centre, which he described as one of the best in Nigeria.
In a related development, the Commissioner for Transporation, Ibrahim Namadi, during the Executive Council Meeting, presented the Kano State Transportation Policy Documents to Yusuf.
He said that the policy, the second of its kind in the country, would serve as a blueprint for sustainable transportation development.
Namadi commended the governor for his vision and commitment in making it a reality.
