A member of the House of Representatives, Kabiru Alhassan Rirum, representing Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya federal constituency, has urged for a total halt on hunters’ movements from the North to the South due to current insecurity concerns.
This call comes after a tragic incident in Uromi, Edo State, where hunters from the North were killed and burnt to ashes.
The lawmaker made this call during a condolence visit to the families of the deceased hunters at their country home in Torankawa Village, Bunkure local government area of Kano State seems to be an error given the incident location is Uromi, Edo State, and Bunkure LGA is in Kano.
Rirum emphasized that carrying dangerous weapons across the country could send a bad signal and potentially lead to chaos, sharing his experience where over 30 hunters from Rano were apprehended in Ondo State.
During his visit, Rirum donated N5 million to the families of the deceased hunters and promised to build an Islamiyya Primary and Secondary School for the orphans.
Senator Masaud Jibrin El-doguwa, State Chairman of the factional NNPP, condemned the killings and pledged that work on the promised school would commence soon, aiming to give hope to the children of the deceased hunters.
Senator El-doguwa expressed condolences to the families of the victims, emphasizing the incident should serve as a lesson to prevent similar crimes.
Rirum’s call for a ban highlights concerns about security and the movement of armed hunters across regions.
