Kano deputy governor expresses confidence in LG management committees

Kano, The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Aminu Gwarzo, has expressed confidence in the Interim Management Committees manning the 44 local governments in the state.
Gwarzo,who is also the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs,
made the remark in Kaduna while inaugurating a three-day orientation retreat organized for Interim Caretaker Committee Chairmen of the 44 local governments of Kano State.
A statement issued by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu,said the retreat was themed:”Operational Guidelines for the Kano State Local Government Interim Management Committees.”
He explained that the retreat would feature series of presentations aimed at equipping participants with the knowledge needed to effectively fulfill their responsibilities and promote the development of their respective local government areas.
The deputy governor then emphasized the importance of understanding operational guidelines as they would serve as the legal framework for their functions.
“You need to understand all aspects of local government functions, including the budgeting process, and seek clarifications from your DPMs or Treasurers where necessary,” he said.
He reminded all the 44 Interim Caretaker Committee Chairmen, Vice-Chairmen, Directors of Personnel Management (DPMs), and Treasurers that their appointments were based on professionalism, qualifications, and the confidence reposed in them by the present NNPP administration in the state.
“You are all expected to be responsible in discharging all local government affairs,” Gwarzo said.
He urged the consultants of the retreat to focus on fostering a collaborative and sustainable working relationship among Interim Caretaker Committee Chairmen, their vice-chairmen, DPMs, Treasurers, and the entire Interim Members Committee for the betterment of their respective local governments.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ibrahim Muhammad Kabara, thanked the deputy governor for organizing the training, which he described as timely.
In his remarks, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Ismail Falgore, represented by his Deputy, Muhammad Bello Butu-Butu, said the operational guidelines would provide a framework for day-to-day running of the local governments and promote transparency and accountability for effective service delivery.
The participants expressed their gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his good leadership and support for grassroots governance and development, as well as the deputy governor “for approving the empowerment of local administrators with the knowledge necessary for sustainable development.”
