Kanoo, The Northern Youth Assembly and Inter-Tribe Community Support Forum, have dismissed rumors that the death of Peter Chukwudi Nwanosike, an Igbo man, is connected to the brutal killing of 16 travelers in Edo State.
At a joint press conference in Kano, Suleiman Idris, Chairman of the Northern Youth Assembly, and Nworisa Michael, Coordinator of the Inter-Tribe Community Support Forum, explained that Nwanosike died due to a phone snatching attack.
According to the duo, Nwanosike, a native of Abagana, Anambra State, passed away after being attacked by hoodlums on Sunday, March 30, 2025, along with several other victims.
Information available to them indicates that Mr. Nwanosike collapsed and died while fleeing from the attackers.
The group emphasized that Nwanosike’s tragic death has no connection to the Uromi incident, contrary to some misleading reports.
“We condemn the spread of fake news and false information, which heightens tensions, fuels division, and disrupts the peace maintained by the government and citizens,” the group stated.
The group warned that harmful rumors can have severe consequences, including inciting violence, creating distrust, and undermining unity in Kano State and beyond.
The group offered condolences to the families of those who lost loved ones, saying their thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
They also praised Governor Abba Abba Kabir Yusuf’s leadership and proactive efforts in maintaining peace and order in Kano State, ensuring no reprisal attacks occurred and demonstrating his commitment to the people’s welfare and safety.
