Group tasks northern NASS members on project completion

Kano,  A pressure group, the Northern Restoration Movement(NRM), has urged members of the National Assembly from the northern part of the country to ensure the completion of critical federal projects in the area.

The call is contained in a statement signed by the group’s National Coordinator, Abdullahi  Yahaya, and its Secretary- General, Ibrahim  Kabara, in Kano on Saturday.

“They should prioritise the completion of critical projects that directly touch the lives of the people they are representing,” the group said.

It listed the projects to include the dredging of River Niger, which it described as a vital project for maritime activities in the region that would create job opportunities for the teeming youths in the region.

It also called for the completion of Kolmani Petroleum Project in Bauchi/Gombe,the Ajaoukuta Steel Complex, the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway and the Mambilla Power Project.

Also, the group tasked the federal legislatures to pursue the resuscitation of all moribund industries as well as safeguard all existing Federal Government projects and infrastructure in the region.

It asked the lawmakers to ensure that all federal government appointment were fair and just.

“Our representatives should always speak with one voice and make sure that they support motions that promote unity and progress of the country.

“We also remind all elected officials from the northern to always articulate their submissions within the provisions of the country ‘s constitution and refuse to be intimidated by anybody.

“They should come together and make sure that democracy survives, devoid of any selfishness and high-handedness.

“The Northern Restoration Movement will continue to advocate the rights and interests of northern Nigeria and Nigeria’s unity, cohesion and progress,” it said.
