APC in Kano United, Ready for Future Elections, Says Gov. Yusuf’s Spokesman

By Aminu Garko

KANO, The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State is operating as a united political bloc and is stronger, more coordinated and fully prepared for future elections, the spokesman to the governor, Alhaji Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, has said.

Mr Dawakin Tofa made the statement on Sunday during an appearance on _Trust TV’s Sunday Politics_, where he exercised a right of reply following an earlier interview granted by former Kano State Governor, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The exchange followed comments by Kwankwaso, who reportedly said the current Kano State governor would regret leaving his political camp to join the APC.

Responding, Mr Dawakin Tofa defended the governor’s decision and addressed broader issues relating to party loyalty, defections and internal political dynamics in Kano and beyond.

*Decisive leadership necessary, says spokesman*

Mr Dawakin Tofa said political leadership sometimes required difficult but necessary decisions, and that the governor acted based on strategic considerations.

He stated that while errors of judgement could be forgiven in politics, failure to take firm and timely decisions often had long-term consequences.

According to him, the governor’s move to the APC was a calculated decision aimed at strengthening governance and political alignment in the state.

He added that the outcome of the decision was already evident in the improved coordination within the party structure.

*Spokesman questions Kwankwaso’s defection record*

Mr Dawakin Tofa also addressed Kwankwaso’s criticism of political defections, describing it as inconsistent.

He noted that Kwankwaso had moved from the NNPP to the ADC and then to the NDC, raising questions about political consistency and messaging.

He said political actors should be cautious in condemning actions they had themselves undertaken, describing it as a contradiction in public narrative.

*Allegations of factional engagement in ADC*

Mr Dawakin Tofa further commented on Kwankwaso’s brief involvement in the ADC, saying it coincided with internal disagreements and factional tensions.

He alleged that Kwankwaso engaged with different blocs within the party, including the David Mark-led faction and individuals aligned with Na’fiu Bala.

He said such parallel engagements contributed to confusion and disunity within the party during that period.

*Multiple party movements raise questions of consistency*

According to Mr Dawakin Tofa, Kwankwaso’s movement across several political platforms within a short period reflected an unstable political pattern.

He said that within a relatively short span, Kwankwaso had participated in or aligned with multiple political formations, suggesting strategic positioning rather than long-term party commitment.

He added that such political mobility often left behind leadership disputes and factional struggles in the affected parties.

Dawakin Tofa insisted that, despite opposition narratives and political debates, the APC in Kano remained united and focused.

He said internal structures within the party had been strengthened, with leaders and members working in coordination towards future electoral contests.

He added that the party’s current cohesion would enhance its performance in upcoming elections, stressing that the APC was not distracted by external political commentary.

The spokesman said the APC’s strength in Kano lay in its unity and clarity of purpose, describing the party as “ready for the political tasks ahead.”
