Kano, Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State says his administration has initiated concrete measures to address the lingering water
deficit in the state capital.
Yusuf said this on Wednesday, while inspecting the Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant, Kano, citing pipe leakages and faulty pumping machines as major issues.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that the governor visited the plant “to ascertain the root causes of the water shortage” and be able to formulate practical solutions to restore regular water supply in the state capital.
The governor told newsmen that the preliminary investigations revealed that “pipe leakages and malfunctioning water pumping machines” were among the major issues disrupting efficient water distribution.
He promised that the repair of damaged pipelines and rehabilitation of faulty equipment at key water facilities would soon commence.
He issued stern warning to companies and individuals involved in the unauthorised diversion of water meant for public consumption.
The governor said: “Diverting potable water for commercial purposes will no longer be tolerated, anyone found culpable would face strict sanctions,
“Ensuring access to clean and potable water remained a top priority of this administration.
“It was one of the key promises made to the people of Kano during my campaign.”
Yusuf also promised to improve the state’s water infrastructure and service delivery.
According to him, the measures being implemented will soon bring lasting relief to residents affected by the prolonged water shortage.
