Need for a Second Term

It is an undeniable fact that Jigawa State has witnessed remarkable progress during the three years of the administration of Umar Namadi.
From the onset of its tenure, the government recognized the need to identify and harness viable economic growth and development opportunities capable of elevating the state to a higher pedestal among its contemporaries in the federation. Consequently, it articulated policy frameworks built around the state’s comparative advantages in agriculture and water resources.
This vision also extended to human capital development, exemplified by the establishment of a university in Majiya. The institution, initially conceived by a private sector operator, was later taken over by the state government in order to ensure its sustainability and long-term contribution to educational advancement.
Similarly, the administration moved decisively to engage Chinese investors in the successful operation of the Maigatari Export Processing Zone for the benefit of the state in particular and the nation at large. Presently, investors from China have returned for the signing of Memoranda of Understanding expected to attract substantial foreign direct investment into the industrial sector of the zone.
These initiatives clearly demonstrate the visionary leadership of the Namadi administration. Government policies have consistently been guided by futuristic thinking and present-day realities. Indeed, the administration’s priorities are firmly anchored on accelerated economic growth and sustainable development.
The enormous agricultural potential of the state informed the establishment of the Jigawa State Agricultural Mechanisation Company, which is aimed at revolutionising and modernising farming practices for improved productivity and profitability.
In addition, the government procured agricultural machinery and equipment that are being made available to farming communities at subsidised rates to ensure efficient and affordable services.
The administration has also encouraged commercial agricultural practices by supporting the cultivation of cash crops such as wheat, hibiscus flower, and sesame seed. Today, Jigawa ranks among the leading producers of these crops in Nigeria and remains second only to Kebbi State in rice production nationwide.
Furthermore, the infrastructural development recorded under the Namadi administration has opened up the state for increased inflow of foreign direct investment. Most importantly, the relative peace and tranquility enjoyed across the state remain highly commendable.
Undoubtedly, a second term for Governor Umar Namadi would enable the administration to devote even greater attention to the industrial development of the state. The proposed Hadejia Sugar Manufacturing Plant, for instance, is expected to receive serious attention because of its enormous potential for job creation and wealth generation for both the farming population and the state economy.
It is important to note that Nigeria currently imports more than 98 percent of its sugar requirements, which indicates the existence of a vast market waiting to be tapped.
To all intents and purposes, Governor Umar Namadi deserves a second term. He has demonstrated competence, vision, and commitment, and therefore merits another opportunity to continue the task of making Jigawa State greater and more prosperous
It is indeed delightful and satisfying that Governor Umar Namadi served with distinction, honour and integrity accountable to the people of Jigawa State anchored on selfnessness and a vision for greater tomorrow leaving his footprints on the sand of time.
