By Ahmed Mohammad Kano
In commemoration of World Human Rights Day, the Kano State Government reiterated its dedication to strengthening sector‑specific interventions and relief efforts aimed at protecting vulnerable communities.
Speaking at the World Human Rights Day celebration and award presentation organized by the Center for Human Rights, the State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, said the government is making considerable strides in disaster management and the distribution of relief materials to ensure adequate social protection across the state.
Represented by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, the Commissioner disclosed that the Ministry will continue to partner with the Center for Human Rights and Charity Development Initiatives to engage youths in skills‑acquisition programmes. “We will work together to safeguard vulnerable populations and build long‑term resilience in all 44 local government areas. Our existing sensitisation programmes on humanitarian issues will complement the Center’s efforts to promote self‑reliance and community contribution,” Kibiya said.
The theme of this year’s programme, “Strengthening Human Rights and Promoting Justice for All,” was described as a timely reminder of the importance of protecting and promoting human rights. “This day underscores the need for public awareness, protection and respect for the rights of all individuals, especially the most vulnerable,” he added.
Kibiya thanked the Center for Human Rights and Charity Development Initiatives for its support to the administration of Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf and called on stakeholders to work as a team to create a society where everyone’s rights are respected through social justice.
Chairman of the occasion, Wakilin Wangarawa Alhaji Dahiru Yusuf, urged citizens to recognise human rights and social protection as pillars of a developed society. National Director‑General of the Center for Human Rights, Comrade Auwalu Jibrli Maifada, recalled that the centre was established in 2018 to protect the vulnerable, promote their rights and preserve life.
At the end of the event, awards were presented to individuals who have contributed to the promotion of human rights and social protection in Kano.
