Prince Mishaal hands over new Kiswa to Grand Mosque keeper

Makka ( Saudi Arabia) The Deputy Emir of Makkah, Prince Saud bin Mishaal, has handed over the Holy Kaaba’s new cover, known as the Kiswa, to Abdul Malik bin Taha Al-Shaibi, the Senior keeper of the Grand Mosque.

The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports this annual tradition markef the start of the new Islamic year and precedes the Hajj season, showcasing the leadership’s care for Islam’s holiest shrine.

He said, “It is a black cloth covering the Kaaba, embroidered with gold and silver threads, standing 14 meters high,made by the King Abdulaziz Complex for Holy Kaaba Kiswa using natural black-dyed silk.

“It’s features include a 95-centimeter-wide belt, 47 meters long, composed of 16 pieces with Islamic patterns

,consists of five pieces of cloth, including the curtain covering the Kaaba door.”

The Kiswa handover ceremony is a significant event that highlights the leadership’s commitment to the upkeep of the Holy Kaaba.

By overseeing every stage of the Kiswa replacement process, from production to completion, the leadership demonstrates its dedication to preserving Islamic traditions and heritage.

According to Mishaal, this ceremony serves as a symbol of respect and care for the Kaaba, Islam’s holiest site, and ensures the continuation of long-standing rituals and customs.

He added,”The attention to detail in the production and replacement of the Kiswa underscores the importance of this sacred site to millions of Muslims worldwide.”
