Kano State Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa, has urged the newly appointed Local Education Secretaries to be dedicated and disciplined in their duties.
Doguwa made this call on Tuesday while addressing the new Education Secretaries from the 44 local government areas during a meeting at the SBMC Conference Hall, State Universal Basic Education Board.
Doguwa emphasized the crucial role Education Secretaries play in restructuring the state’s basic education, highlighting that their appointments are based on specific criteria.
He encouraged them to work hard and bring about positive changes that complement the present administration’s efforts to improve primary and post-primary education in the state.
The Commissioner also announced that the Kano State Government has completed arrangements to implement new education programs worth 10 billion Naira.
These programs include providing soft loans to 1,000 teachers, distributing over 700,000 school uniforms to primary pupils, and distributing 1,500 computers and 1.2 million books to schools.
In addition, the ministry is proposing an Education Secretaries monitoring exercise to ensure prompt school monitoring.
Doguwa reminded the Secretaries to post staff based on merit, regardless of position.
Earlier, the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Education Board, Malam Kabiru Yusuf, commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his support, which has brought positive changes to the state’s primary education.
Yusuf outlined steps taken by the Board to ensure quality education, including screening for teacher posts, schools support officers, and Quality Assurance Personnel.
