Kano State’s primary education sector is facing significant challenges, particularly with the lack of perimeter fencing in many schools.
This exposes pupils and teachers to security threats, making it difficult to provide a conducive learning environment.
At Kumbotso Special Primary School, established in 1948, the lack of perimeter fencing is a major concern.
The school’s Head Master, Malam Shaibu Idris, highlighted this issue, emphasizing the need for improved security measures.
Some of the other challenges facing primary education in Kano State include:
Shortage of Teachers*: A significant shortage of qualified teachers affects the quality of education.
Inadequate Infrastructure*: Many schools lack basic facilities, including toilets, making it difficult for pupils to learn.
Poverty*: Poverty leads to low enrollment and high dropout rates, making it challenging for the state to provide quality education.
The Kano State Government has taken steps to address these challenges, including providing instructional materials and furniture.
However, more needs to be done to ensure the security and well-being of pupils and teachers. The government, parents, and stakeholders must work together to provide a conducive learning environment for pupils.
