The Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP) has received validation from international donors, including the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and Lives and Livelihoods Funds (LLF), for its impact in improving agriculture and food security in Kano State.
The $95 million project, aimed at reducing poverty by 30% and increasing smallholder farmers’ production and productivity, has positively transformed the lives of 1.3 million beneficiaries along the agriculture value chain in Kano.
Adil Sherif, team lead of the foreign donors, commended the implementing partners for the impressive impact on the less privileged, particularly women, whose livelihoods have grown significantly since the project’s inception.
The delegation, comprising representatives from IsDB, LLF, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, King Salman Relief Centre, Quarter Funds, and Abu Dahbi Support fund, visited various project sites in Kano, including a local parboil rice center, milk collection center, onion preserving center, and Dawanu international grain market.
Dr. Farouk Kurawa, Managing Director of Kano Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA), assured the delegation of the state government’s commitment to sustaining the project beyond its five-year duration.
He explained that the project is designed with a self-sustaining mechanism to ensure continuity and replication by beneficiaries.
The validation by international donors is a testament to KSADP’s success in improving the lives of smallholder farmers and promoting food security in Kano State.
