Massive turnout, peaceful conduct mark Dawakin Kudu–Warawa bye-election

Kano – A large voter turnout and peaceful conduct marked the House of Representatives bye-election in Dawakin Kudu–Warawa Federal Constituency on Saturday.

Across polling units in Dawakin Kudu and Warawa local government areas, voters turned out in significant numbers and cast their ballots in an orderly atmosphere.

The election featured candidates of the All Progressives Congress, Labour Party and Allied Peoples Movement.

Electoral officials said accreditation and voting proceeded smoothly, with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System functioning effectively throughout the exercise.

Security personnel were deployed to polling centres to maintain law and order. No major security breach or incident of violence was recorded.

Kano State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ambassador Abdu Zango, commended voters for their peaceful conduct and attributed the success to effective planning by electoral and security authorities.

He said voter participation, particularly in Warawa, showed growing public confidence in the electoral process, and expressed satisfaction with the performance of the BVAS machines after they were updated ahead of the poll.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, also praised the level of peace during the election. He said it reflected collaboration among security agencies and increasing political maturity among voters.

Bakori added that security agencies would continue to strengthen measures to ensure peaceful and credible elections.

The bye-election is seen as an important test of electoral preparedness in Kano State and a possible indicator of what to expect in the 2027 general elections.
