Yusuf Appoints Emir of Lafia as Chancellor of Northwest University, Kano

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has approved the appointment of His Royal Highness, Justice (Rtd) Sidi Muhammad Bage, the Emir of Lafia, as the new Chancellor of Northwest University, Kano. 

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Sunday in Kano.

The decision has been hailed by stakeholders as visionary, reflecting the administration’s commitment to strengthening the synergy between Nigeria’s traditional institutions and centers of higher learning. 

Emir Sidi Bage, born on June 22, 1956, in Lafia, Nasarawa State, holds a diploma and an LLB from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1981.

With a distinguished legal career spanning over four decades, Emir Bage has served as a magistrate, High Court Judge, Court of Appeal Judge, and Supreme Court Justice. 

He was appointed as the 17th Emir of Lafia in March 2019, where he has earned respect as a custodian of peace, justice, and community cohesion.

By appointing Emir Bage as Chancellor, Northwest University, Kano, continues its tradition of drawing from Nigeria’s most accomplished and principled leaders. 

Governor Yusuf emphasized that the appointment reflects the university’s dedication to excellence, integrity, and national development, citing Emir Bage’s sterling record of fairness, deep social engagement, and leadership.

The appointment letter was presented to the Emir by the Chairman of the University Council, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, accompanied by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa.
