Global Initiatives for Good Governance (GIGG), a non-governmental organization based in Kano, has strongly condemned the actions of the Kano State Government, led by Governor Abba Kabir, and Emir Sunusi Lamido Sunusi.
According to Abubakar Yahaya Carpenter, convener of GIGG, the government and emir disregarded the rule of law and public safety.
Recall, the Kano State Police Commissioner had issued a lawful ban on all activities during Eid celebrations, citing actionable intelligence to prevent potential breakdowns of law and order.
However, Governor Abba Kabir and Emir Sunusi Lamido Sunusi disregarded this ban, leading to a tragic breakdown of law and order during the Eid horse riding event, resulting in loss of lives and injuries to innocent participants.
The coalition of NGOs is appalled by this gross abuse of power and failure of those in authority to uphold the law.
They call on security agencies to take immediate action to apprehend those responsible and hold Emir Sunusi Lamido Sunusi accountable for the lives lost and injuries sustained.
Justice must be served to restore faith in institutions and prevent such negligence from occurring again.
The coalition urges citizens to remain vigilant and hold their leaders accountable, demanding leaders who prioritize public safety and welfare over personal agendas and public displays of authority.
