KANO ASSEMBLY SCREENS DG BATURE DAWAKIN TOFA AS COMMISSIONER-DESIGNATE

Kano, Nov. 3, 2026 ,The Kano State House of Assembly on Tuesday screened the Director-General of Media and Publicity, Government House Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, following his nomination as a member of the State Executive Council.
The screening followed a formal executive communication transmitted to the House on Monday by Gov. Abba Yusuf, submitting the names of Dawakin Tofa and Balarabe Sa’idu Gani for screening and confirmation.
This was contained in a statement issued by Usman Gwadabe, Director Public Enlightenment, Government House Kano on Tuesday.
Presiding over the plenary, the Speaker of the House, Jibril Falgore, welcomed the nominee before the floor of the House and directed him to present a summary of his personal and professional background.
Following the presentation, lawmakers were given the floor to engage the nominee on key sector issues.
Responding to questions regarding strategies to strengthen government media relations and manage the digital media space, Dawakin Tofa who brings over 22 years of professional media experience, emphasised that proactive information management as essential to addressing public communication challenges.
He advocated for strategic collaboration between the Assembly and the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation to draft legislative frameworks for regulating social media platform usage in alignment with Kano State’s cultural norms and societal values.
Dawakin Tofa also assured the legislature of a renewed focus on state-owned media organisations to enhance their operational efficiency and competitive edge.
He emphasised that the Triumph Publishing Company should continue producing hard-copy publications and have a substantive head appointed to oversee its affairs.
The Director-General pledged that the Radio Kano Corporation and Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV) would undergo strategic realignment to enhance their capacities.
He expressed gratitude to Gov. Yusuf and lawmakers for the nomination and screening respectively, assuring to promote and project the state image positively.
