Kano political temperament rose to breakable limit on Thursday afternoon following announcement by the court of Appeal to delivered its ruling on the contentious governorship poll between the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and the All Progressive Congress (APC) on Friday
Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Chief press Secretary to Abba Kabir Yusuf in a terse statement broke the news to a bewildered city of the impending judgement Friday by 10:00am.
Mr. Bature Dawakin-Tofa revealed that “Appeal court to deliver judgement on Kano Election Petition tomorrow, Friday, 17th November, 2023 by 10:00am in Abuja. This Information contained in a letter sent to our legal team today”.
The lower court had in a landmark judgement last September, sacked the incumbent governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf of the NNPP and declared Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of APC as duly elected governor.
A three-man panel had on September 20th ordered the withdrawal of the certificate of return which INEC presented to Abba Kabir Yusuf and directed a certificate of return to be issued to Gawuna.
The court decision was established after it deducted 165,663 votes from Yusuf’s total as invalid votes, stating that the affected ballot papers were not stamped or signed and therefore declared invalid.
A drive round the one city state on Thursday afternoon indicated glaring apprehension, tension among the residents over the likely outcome.
There was panic in the city of over 15 million residents as people who can afford were seen trooping to markets to stock food items, and other essentials.
Although, the police has repeatedly assured the residents of their safety, and banned rally, but most residents are worried of likely security breach
