Kano Govt Faults Report Claiming State Tops Insecurity Index

The Kano State Government has dismissed a report published by Daily Trust alleging that the state recorded the highest level of insecurity in the country.

The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, gave the rebuttal while addressing journalists shortly after defending his ministry’s proposed 2026 budget before the Kano State House of Assembly.

Waiya described the publication as “false, misleading, and completely untrue,” stressing that the state has continued to record significant progress in maintaining peace and protecting lives and property.

He urged journalists and media organisations to uphold the ethics of the profession by ensuring fairness, objectivity, and accuracy in their reports.

The commissioner cautioned against allowing the media to be used to fuel political interests or sentiments, noting that irresponsible journalism can undermine public trust and escalate tension.

Waiya reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining security collaborations with security agencies, traditional institutions, and community leaders to ensure that Kano remains one of the most peaceful states in the country.
