Kano , Gov.Abba  Yusuf of KanoState, has pledged over N2 billion to redevelop the Farm Centre GSM Market, a major commercial hub in Kano metropolis. 

The market, which operates across 20 plazas and employs over 39,000 youth, was recently affected by a fire outbreak. Here’s what the governor’s initiative will cover.

Reconstruction and Expansion: The project involves rebuilding damaged sections and expanding the market through additional space acquisition.

Fire Station: A fire station equipped with modern firefighting tools will be established within the market to prevent future incidents.

Infrastructure Development: The initiative includes Solar-Powered Streetlights*: To improve security and visibility.Pedestrian Bridge: To enhance access and safety.

Drainage Systems: To control flooding.Access Road Rehabilitation: To improve roads within and around the market.

The governor’s visit and funding pledge have been widely hailed by stakeholders as a bold step toward economic recovery, infrastructure renewal, and youth inclusion. 

The market is one of the largest tech-related informal job markets in Northern Nigeria, making this initiative crucial for the local economy.

Speaking earlier, Comrade Jamilu Gama, Chairman of the Market, expressed sincere gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the timely intervention.

He noted that traders were deeply encouraged by the government’s concern and swift action, particularly after the losses suffered in the recent fire incident.

The Farm Centre GSM Market, a major commercial hub located in the heart of Kano metropolis, spans across 20 plazas and serves as a key center for mobile phones, gadgets, and related services. 

With over 39,000 youths directly employed, it stands as one of the largest tech-related informal job markets in Northern Nigeria.
