Jigawa State: A Safe Haven for Investment
Since the creation of Jigawa State, providing clean and safe drinking water for Dutse metropolis and other major towns has been a persistent challenge for successive administrations. Despite numerous efforts by the Sule Lamido administration to address this issue, lasting success was elusive, largely due to the topography of the cities and towns across the state.
One of the major obstacles hindering progress was the insufficient power supply from the national grid, which made it difficult for government efforts to yield sustainable results. The Jigawa State Water Board also struggled to stabilize the water supply system due to recurring challenges faced by the state electrification agency in maintaining power generators.
However, the administration of Governor Umar Namadi has taken significant strides in tackling this long-standing problem. Building on the foundations laid by his predecessors, Governor Namadi has demonstrated a strong commitment to resolving the water supply crisis. Upon assuming office on May 29, 2023, he prioritized ensuring access to safe, hygienic drinking water across all 27 local government areas of the state.
A prominent politician, Ali Abdulkadiri Hadejia, noted that the government has rolled out a long-term strategic plan to address water sufficiency. Drawing from his close familiarity with the programme during the campaign period, Abdulkadiri expressed confidence that the administration is fully aware of the challenges and is determined to ensure that Jigawa achieves self-sufficiency in potable, clean drinking water for its residents.
Governor Namadi’s commitment to developing Jigawa State extends beyond water supply. Affordable healthcare has also emerged as a key component of his administration’s agenda. His deep understanding of the state’s needs stems from his impressive track record as a former Commissioner of Finance and Deputy Governor, roles that prepared him for the challenges of governing Jigawa State.
Before his political career, Governor Namadi was a chartered accountant with an excellent reputation, having served meritoriously with the Dangote Group. His financial expertise has helped instill a culture of prudent resource management in Jigawa State.
Now, Jigawa State is well-positioned to unlock its full potential by tapping into its abundant resources, thereby kickstarting its economy and attracting both local and foreign investments. With its peaceful environment, Jigawa offers a safe and secure haven for investors.
The state boasts seamless movement of goods and services via air, road, and rail transportation. It also provides a conducive business environment characterized by low production costs, an abundance of skilled and unskilled labor, affordable food, and inexpensive accommodation. Above all, the state’s safety and security make it an ideal destination for investments.
Governor Namadi’s administration is particularly focused on attracting investments in agro-allied industries, solid minerals, and information technology, among other sectors. With the right policies and strategic vision, Jigawa State stands ready to become a hub for industrialization and economic growth, opening the door to a new world of opportunities.
