Kano, The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCAC) has identified seven shops and dealers responsible for the artificial increase of prices of flour, causing high cost of bread in the state.
The Chairman of the commission, Muhyi Rimin Gado, disclosed this shortly after meeting with the Chairman of the Singer Market Development Association on Friday.
Rimin-Gado said the agency had obtained court orders to prosecute those behind the price hikes.
Governor Abba Yusuf had directed the agency to take swift action to address the artificial price increases, particularly for flour and spaghetti.
The governor had met with the Singer Market Development Association and the Baker’s Association to resolve the issue.
As a result, the Singer Market Association agreed to supply flour directly to the bakers, cutting out middlemen who inflated prices.
” Seven shops have been locked down, and a dealer is being sought for evading invitations to answer allegations,”Rimin-Gado said.
The agency warned that it would pursue and prosecute those responsible for the artificial price hikes, which have negatively impacted the lives of millions.
The Chairman of the Singer Market Development Association,Junaidu Zakari, confirmed the agreement to supply flour directly to the bakers.
