Kano police command foils plot to disrupt Sallah Durbar

Kano,The Police Command in Kano State says it has arrested suspected criminals who planned to cause mayhem on day one of the ongoing Id-el-Fitr celebrations in the state.

The Commissioner of Police,Usaini Gumel,disclosed this Newsmen on Thursday.

Gumel said under the guise of some clusters of some political admirers of a serving Senator from the state,some youths planned to storm the venue of the Durbar procession in political regalia.

He said this could have attracted a counter reaction and ultimately led to breakdown of law and order in the area.

“Consequently, we where proactive and prevented it from happening,”he said.

The commissioner said sustained surveillance and patrols was continuing in order to keep the peace, which led to the arrest “a total of …….. suspected criminals who came to take advantage on the first day of Sallah have been taken-off the streets of the five Emirates in Kano State.”

“Exhibits of various descriptions including cannabis, motor cycles and deadly weapons among others, were recovered from them,” he said.

He warned that there was no space for criminals to operate in the state,adding that more raids on identified criminals’ hideouts had been intensified.
