Paris – September 12, 2026 – The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has felicitated Professor Abdulsalam Gwarzo and other eminent Nigerians honoured at the 2026 International Hausa Day celebration held in Paris, France.
This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s Director General, Media and Publicity, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Saturday.
The Hausa Community in Europe announced the appointment of Gwarzo as its Chancellor during the event, in recognition of his contributions to the promotion of Hausa culture, language and the welfare of Hausa communities in Europe.
The Emir of the Hausa Community in Europe, Surajo Jankado, who announced the appointment, described it as a significant step towards strengthening the unity and development of the Hausa community in Europe.
In his acceptance speech, Gwarzo expressed appreciation to the leadership of the community for the appointment, pledging to work with stakeholders towards promoting the Hausa language, culture, identity and unity among Hausa people in Europe.
He said the responsibility would provide an opportunity to contribute to initiatives aimed at preserving Hausa heritage and ensuring that younger generations remain connected to their language, culture and values.
Gwarzo also called for greater cooperation among Hausa communities across European countries, stressing the importance of unity, education and cultural preservation.
Representing the governor at the event, Dawakin Tofa described the appointment of Gwarzo as meritorious, considering his community service in Europe and Nigeria.
“Prof. Gwarzo deserves such recognition at the international stage due to his unwavering support in promoting the Hausa language and culture over the years,” he said.
Yusuf also congratulated the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmed, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative at UNESCO, Hajjo Sani, and Alhaja Mufeedah Folashade Bola Tinubu, Iyaloja, who were turbaned at the 2026 International Hausa Day celebration in Paris.
The International Hausa Day celebration brought together members of the Hausa community, traditional leaders, academics, cultural advocates and other stakeholders to celebrate the language, culture and heritage of the Hausa people.
