KANO FEDERAL CHARACTER COMMITTEE SUBMITS REPORT, SSG PLEDGES TO PURSUE STATE’S ENTITLEMENTS

Kano – August 20, 2026 – The Technical Committee on Federal Character Application and Compliance has submitted its report to the Kano State Government.

The Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, received the report on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Wednesday at the office of the SSG.

A statement by the Press Secretary, Office of the SSG, Musa Tanko Muhammad, said the report, contained in a booklet dated August 2026, documents Kano State’s position on the application and compliance with the Federal Character principle.

The committee was inaugurated by the state government to undertake a technical assessment of how the principle affects Kano State. It is chaired by former Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Dr. Danyaro Ali Yakasai.

Receiving the document, the SSG commended the chairman and members for what he described as thorough and selfless service.

Farouk said the report would serve as an important resource in the government’s determination to ensure Kano receives its rightful share of federal appointments, recruitments and other opportunities.

“The government will act on the findings and recommendations contained in the report. What is due to Kano State shall be earnestly pursued and fully utilised,” he said.

He added that the assignment provided an evidence-based foundation for the state to engage relevant federal institutions and pursue legitimate opportunities for its citizens.

The SSG noted that effective participation in the federal structure requires qualified citizens and a deliberate mechanism for monitoring representation and compliance with provisions on equitable participation.

He thanked the committee for its dedication and contribution to the development of the state.

In his remarks, Dr. Yakasai expressed gratitude to Governor Yusuf for the opportunity to serve. He said the report was the product of collective effort by members and stakeholders who provided information and support.

He assured that the committee remained available to offer its expertise for future assignments when called upon.

The statement said the submission marks a transition from investigation and analysis to implementation, providing government with a documented basis to identify opportunities, address gaps in representation, and engage federal authorities where necessary.
