YUSUF URGES PEACEFUL, ISSUE-BASED CAMPAIGN AS 2027 GOVERNORSHIP RACE BEGINS IN KANO

By Aminu Garko
Kano – September 9, 2026 – The Kano State Government has urged political parties and candidates to conduct peaceful and issue-based campaigns as activities for the 2027 governorship election commence in the state.
The Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, made the call at a press conference on Wednesday on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Tofa said the commencement of campaigns provides an opportunity for political parties and candidates to present their programmes, achievements and visions to the people of Kano State.
He assured residents that the campaign of the incumbent administration would be peaceful and focused on the development, unity and prosperity of the state.
“Let us compete on the basis of ideas, policies, records and programmes rather than insults, intimidation or violence,” he said.
Tofa urged all governorship candidates and their supporters to embrace responsible campaigns and avoid hate speech, provocation, character assassination, destruction of property and any action capable of disturbing the peace of the state.
He also called on supporters to remain disciplined, respect opposing views and reject any provocation that could undermine peace and public order.
The spokesperson urged the media, influencers, bloggers and social media users to verify information before publication and to avoid the spread of fake news, rumours and inflammatory content.
He further called on security agencies to remain professional, impartial and vigilant throughout the campaign period, and urged political parties and campaign organisations to cooperate with them and comply with all lawful requirements.
Tofa said the government would continue to discharge its responsibilities and deliver services to the people regardless of the political season, adding that its commitment to development and good governance remains unwavering under Yusuf.
“Kano is bigger than any political party or individual. Political competition will come and go, but we will continue to live together as one people after the election,” he said.
He appealed to all candidates to join hands in protecting the peace and unity of Kano irrespective of political differences, and expressed confidence that APC candidates would win all political positions in 2027.
