Kano – Thousands of voters turned out across polling units in Dawakin Kudu and Warawa local government areas on Saturday for the House of Representatives by-election for the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency.
The poll opened as scheduled in most polling units, with residents queuing orderly to elect a new representative to the National Assembly. Observers and INEC officials said voting proceeded peacefully, with security personnel deployed to key locations to protect voters, officials and materials.
Kano State Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Danjuma Mahmoud, who monitored the exercise, commended voters for their maturity and discipline. He said the turnout reflected public confidence in the electoral process and a strong commitment to democratic governance.
Mahmoud also praised INEC officials and security agencies for their professionalism, saying collaboration among stakeholders helped ensure a smooth poll.
Some voters described the process as transparent and well-organised, and urged INEC to maintain the standards in future elections.
Voting, accreditation and counting continued without major incidents, with party agents and observers monitoring proceedings.
The by-election was held to fill the vacant seat for the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency. At the close of voting, INEC officials began sorting and counting ballots in the presence of agents, observers and the public, ahead of the official declaration of results.
