Kano, The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Campaign Council, Sen. Abdulaziz Yari, has visited the leader of the Qadiriyya Sufi Order in Africa, Sheikh Qaribullah Nasiru Kabara, in Kano as part of nationwide consultations ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Yari, who visited the Islamic scholar at his residence in Kano on Sunday night, said the consultations were aimed at seeking the blessings, prayers and spiritual guidance of prominent religious leaders and traditional rulers for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
He said the APC Presidential Campaign Council had also adopted town hall meetings as part of its strategy for engaging directly with Nigerians ahead of the 2027 election.
Yari said the meetings would enable the council to present the achievements of the Tinubu administration, outline its proposed second-term agenda and listen to the concerns and expectations of citizens.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting with Sheikh Kabara, Yari said the council had already begun consultations with religious leaders in different parts of the country.
“We are going to continue with these consultations, and we are in Kano to seek the blessings and spiritual guidance of the Sheikhs. We were in Bauchi, Jos and Kaduna, where we met with Izala and Tijjaniyya leaders, and now we are meeting with the Qadiriyya sect,” he said.
Yari said seeking prayers and divine guidance was important to the campaign and the affairs of the country.
He expressed optimism that if re-elected in 2027, the Tinubu administration would have an opportunity to further strengthen Nigeria’s economy and improve the living conditions of citizens.
According to him, some of the administration’s economic reforms had contributed to greater stability in prices and the foreign exchange market.
“Due to the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, today prices have truly stabilised, while the dollar is not only available but the foreign exchange rate is no longer moving up in a crazy manner like before,” Yari said.
He expressed optimism that Nigerians would experience greater benefits from the government’s economic policies as the reforms continued.
Responding, Sheikh Kabara said religious leaders would continue to pray for political leaders and the peace, stability and success of Nigeria.
The cleric also described Yari’s appointment as Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council as recognition of his experience and qualities.
The campaign council was constituted by President Tinubu in August, with Yari, a former governor of Zamfara and serving senator, appointed as director-general.
At a town hall meeting in Kano, the Deputy Governor of the state, Murtala Sule Garo, assured the campaign council of Kano State’s support for President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
Garo said Kano State had benefited from several projects and initiatives of the Federal Government under the Tinubu administration, adding that the state would continue to engage with the campaign council ahead of the election.
The Kano engagement forms part of the APC campaign council’s broader consultations with citizens and religious leaders as it begins preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
