Gov.Abba Yusuf of  Kano State has commenced payment of over N16 billion in outstanding gratuities and allowances to former APC councillors (2014-2024) and current office holders in the 44 local government councils.

This is contained in a statement issued by Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs Comrade Ibrahim Wayya in Makka,Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.

Yusuf emphasized that the payment of gratuities to former APC councillors is a rightful entitlement and a gesture of appreciation for their service to the state, rather than a privilege.

He stressed that the decision was guided by principles of justice and fairness.

“This moment is not merely ceremonial; it symbolizes our administration’s unwavering commitment to upholding dignity, fairness, and accountability in public service.

It underscores our pledge to honor those who served and continue to serve the state at the grassroots level.”

Governor Yusuf noted that the previous APC administration had denied gratuity payments to former councillors from the 44 local government councils, comprising 484 wards, who completed their tenures at different times.

The NNPP administration has now rectified this by paying outstanding entitlements, including gratuities, to former APC councillors, vice chairmen, chairmen, supervisory councillors, and special advisers.

The Governor noted that the state executive council unanimously approved the payment of gratuities to all former councillors, regardless of party affiliation.

He emphasized that denying them their rightful entitlements after diligent service would be unjust.

This decision marks a departure from the previous administration’s stance, showcasing the NNPP administration’s commitment to fairness.

The Governor stated that the state executive council unanimously approved gratuity payments to all former councillors, transcending party lines.

Denying entitlements after diligent service would be unjust, he emphasized, highlighting the NNPP administration’s departure from the previous administration’s stance and commitment to fairness.

Governor Yusuf further noted that, councillors form 484 wards of the state’s 44 local governments councils who completed their tenure at different times, were denied their rights  by the past APC  administration, by refusing to pay them their gratuity saying “we can’t toe this line”.
