Kano, The Kano State Government says it has expended over N1 billion on the renovation of the state-owned Muhammadu Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran, disclosed this on Saturday while conducting the Presidential Media Team on an inspection tour of completed and ongoing projects in the state.
Labaran said the 230-bed hospital was undergoing a total overhaul to ensure efficient service delivery.
According to him, the hospital comprises four main specialties: Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Internal Medicine, Paediatrics, and Surgery.
“This wing, where we are now, hosts General Medicine as well as Obstetrics and Gynaecology. That is the maternity wing. It is undergoing total renovation.
“This hospital has never received this kind of attention since its establishment during the colonial era. It is now undergoing total renovation.
“It has been converted to a totally new facility, such that if you enter, you may think you are not in Nigeria because of how clean and good the hospital looks from within,” Labaran said.
Similarly, the Commissioner for Works, Marwan Ahmed-Aminu, said work on the hospital would be completed in the next two months.
He said the hospital would be equipped with modern facilities upon completion.
Earlier, the team also visited Asiya Bayero Hospital, which was reclaimed by the present administration after it was sold by the previous administration.
