Kano,  The Chief Imam of Arrashid Mosque, Rijiyar Zaki, Kano, Sheikh Mohammad Dankwano, has urged Muslims to feed the needy during Ramadan, describing it as a period of increased charity and compassion.

The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that Sheikh Dankwano made the plea in an interview with newsmen in Kano on Tuesday.

According to the cleric, Almighty Allah will reward those who provide food to fasting Muslims with equal benefit, without diminishing the reward of the fasting Muslims.

“A Hadith of the Holy Prophet says: ‘Whoever feeds a fasting person, will be rewarded equally, without diminishing the reward of the fasting person’.

“I therefore encourage us to endeavour to provide food to people, especially to the less privileged,” he advised.

He emphasised that feeding the hungry strengthens faith and promotes social harmony, calling on wealthy individuals to support vulnerable groups, including orphans and widows.

The Islamic Scholar cited the Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) exemplary attitude of increasing charity during Ramadan.

While assuring that acts of kindness during Ramadan attract multiple blessings, Dankwano said Almighty Allah had pledged abundant rewards for those who provide food to the needy, especially those observing the fast.

According to the cleric, feeding the hungry is not only a moral responsibility but also a spiritual investment that strengthens faith and promotes social harmony within the society.

“My message to the wealthy individuals is, they should extend helping hands to vulnerable groups, including orphans, widows and the physically challenged, to ease their hardships during the fasting period.

“I also urge the faithful to embrace generosity and selflessness throughout the holy month. Ramadan is a unique opportunity to earn divine mercy and forgiveness through service to humanity,” he noted.
