Kano, Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State on Thursday praised Alhaji Aliko Dangote for committing 25 % of his personal wealth to philanthropy, describing the gesture as a historic boost to human development and a model for African philanthropic leadership.

The commendation was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, in Kano.

following an event at Eko Hotels, Lagos, which was attended by the Vice President, Kashim Shatima, the governors of Kano, Gombe, Nasarawa and Borno, and the two federal Ministers of Education.

At the gathering, the Aliko Dangote Foundation announced a N100 billion education‑support package for 155 000 students across Nigeria.

The foundation also unveiled a ten‑year vision to invest up to N1 trillion, targeting 1 325 000 beneficiaries, with a major focus on out‑of‑school children.

Governor Yusuf welcomed the initiative, noting that its emphasis on access, teacher training and infrastructure complements Kano’s bold education reforms, which were declared a state of emergency earlier this year.

He highlighted recent achievements in the state, including the recruitment of more than 13 000 teachers, extensive school rehabilitation, reduction of over‑crowded classrooms, distribution of desks, and provision of scholarships and tuition‑fee reductions.

The governor also referenced ongoing efforts to conduct a statewide survey to accurately identify out‑of‑school children and to integrate Qur’anic schools into formal learning centres.

He commended the allocation of N15 billion for upgrading the state‑owned Aliko Dangote University, Wudil, to international standards, saying the investment will enhance access, quality and global competitiveness.

“The Foundation’s intervention captures the real needs of the system, supports Kano’s priorities and strengthens partnership for education,” Governor Yusuf said.

He reaffirmed Kano’s vision: every school a good school; every child enrolled; every student an engaged learner; every teacher a caring educator; every parent a supportive partner; and the government a committed investor in human‑capital development.

Governor Yusuf expressed optimism for a future of great partnership and mutual collaboration with the Aliko Dangote Foundation to achieve these goals.
