Kano,  The Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS (SACA) took its World AIDS Day campaign to the Kurmawa Medium‑Security Custodial Centre on Thursday, screening inmates for HIV, hepatitis, syphilis and tuberculosis (TB) and providing treatment linkage and health education.

Dr Usman Bashir, Director‑General of SACA, said the outreach underscored the Kano State government’s commitment to leaving no one behind in the fight against HIV, particularly among vulnerable populations in custodial facilities.

He added that the exercise included HIV counselling, immediate initiation of antiretroviral therapy for newly diagnosed cases and the distribution of essential drugs and medical supplies, all fully funded by the state government.

Deputy Controller of the National Correctional Service, Kano Command, Ibrahim Isa Rambo, commended the initiative, noting that regular health interventions in prisons protect inmates and the wider community.

The agency reiterated its dedication to expanding similar programmes to other correctional facilities across the state.
