Abuja, August 21, 2025 – A high-powered delegation of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Kano/Jigawa Branches, led by MAN Director and National Council Member, Alhaji Ali Madugu, mni, paid a strategic working visit to the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) headquarters in Abuja. The meeting aimed to explore cost-effective and reliable electricity supply solutions to support industries in Kano through structured bulk trading with the Manufacturers Power Development Company Ltd (MPDCL).
Kano Manufacturers Raise Concerns
The Kano delegation, comprising key industrial leaders, shared first-hand accounts of the challenges posed by unreliable and exorbitant power supply in the state.
- Mallam Bello Mohammed Umar, Chairman of MAN Bompai Branch, detailed the frustrating experiences of manufacturers who rely heavily on costly alternative energy sources, undermining competitiveness.
- Prof. Haruna Musa of Nigeria Spinners & Dyers emphasized MAN Kano’s expectations for a more structured and dependable electricity trading framework between NDPHC and MPDCL, underpinned by stronger infrastructure and reliable distribution networks.
NDPHC Reaffirms Commitment
Welcoming the delegation, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, Managing Director/CEO of NDPHC, described the engagement as timely and strategic: “Your visit is timely because Kano is crucial to us for many socio-economic reasons. We are ready to harness this relationship and translate it into solutions that will bring relief to manufacturers.” She outlined ongoing NDPHC initiatives to optimize generation capacity, strengthen transmission systems, and collaborate with industrial stakeholders to unlock stranded power for productive use.
Role of MPDCL
The Acting MD of MPDCL, Mr. Oweh Mba-Sam, explained MPDCL’s facilitation role in ensuring seamless bulk electricity trading between NDPHC and manufacturers. He assured that MPDCL is positioned to serve as the bridge that channels affordable power directly to industries in Kano.
A Promising Way Forward
The deliberations were cordial and constructive, concluding on a promising note with commitments from both sides. NDPHC and MAN agreed to establish a joint working framework to fast-track the implementation of bulk electricity trading arrangements and address infrastructure bottlenecks.
In his closing remarks, Alhaji Ali Madugu, mni, reiterated that stable and affordable electricity remains critical to sustaining industrial growth in Kano. He expressed optimism that the renewed partnership with NDPHC will unlock opportunities for growth, safeguard jobs, and enhance Nigeria’s industrial competitiveness.
The session ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Alhaji Nura Madugu, Chairman of MAN Sharada/Challawa Branch, who commended NDPHC’s openness and commitment to collaboration.
