Kano, A Kano-based businessman,  Alhaji Ibrahim Mukhtar Mohammed, has vowed to take legal action against the Kano State Government over the demolition of his multi-million naira shop located on Zoo Road.

Mohammed alleged that the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA) demolished his shop without prior notice, despite him following due processes.

He also accused KNUPDA officials of extorting money from him for designing the construction drawing and supervising the work, only to demolish the structure later.

“The shop was demolished without notice, and we woke up to find it in ruins. Our loss is approximately N20 million,” Mohammed said.

“We’ve consulted our lawyers, and we’ll take legal action against the state government.”

In response to the allegations, KNUPDA Managing Director Ibrahim Yakubu Adamu stated that the structure was demolished because it was erected illegally.

Adamu claimed that due process was followed, and the businessman received three notices, which he ignored.

Regarding the extortion allegations, Adamu said an investigation is underway, and anyone found guilty would face sanctions.

“We have initiated a thorough investigation into the alleged involvement of our staff in the structure that was demolition exercise.

Anyone found to be involved in any wrongdoing will be held accountable and dealt with accordingly.”he said.
