Kano, PLANE organize 3-day Technical Session On Annual Education Sector Performance Review

The Kano State Government, in partnership with Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE), has convened a 3-day technical session to develop the 2024 Annual Education Sector Performance Review.

Declaring the workshop opened  today Tuesday at Seventeen Hotel, Kaduna State, Kano State Commissioner of Education Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda said the workshop is aimed at establishing key policy direction for the education sector that will be converted in to actionable and coasted programmes.

Dr. Ali Makoda represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on school feeding programme Alhaji Umar Musa Gama added that the annual sector review is in fulfilling the ministry mandate of developing education policies and implementing new strategies aligned with government development plan.

Makoda revealed that during the 3-day programme, stakeholders would critically examine the education sector’s previous plans and outcomes to align its strategies with new development goals.

He stressed that the meeting was not just a routine exercise, but a forum where stakeholders collectively identify progress and challenges in the education sector with a view to strategizing the way forward.

” This is an era when education remains the backbone of any sustainable development.  Our ability to evaluate and strategize the sector performance can not be overstated.

” Over the past two years, we have witnessed the remarkable effort made by the Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf in the education sector by being passionate to allocate 31.5% of the state budget to the sector” he pointed out.

The Commissioner noted that despite the several initiatives put in place to improve the education sector, still some areas relating to the issue of access, quality, equity, teachers well fair and infrastructure continue to demand more government’s attention.

Dr. Haruna therefore urged the participants to work as a team and inculcate the spirit of patriotism to face the task a head which, he described as a shared responsibility that requires the support of all.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Finance Sabi’u Shu’aibu Muhammad expressed appreciation over the financial and moral support given by the development partners in complementing the present administration commitment to revitalizing the education sector.

Earlier, the state coordinator PLANE, Umar Lawan said the programme was designed to critically look at the performance of the Kano Education Sector for the year 2014-2025.

” We are all aware that His Excellency, the Governor has taken a giant stride in moving the education sector forward. In order to complement what His Excellency is doing, PLANE and FCDO are very much willing to align with his policy in ensuring that Kano has taken its position as role model in terms of educational development” he said.
