Aquifer discovery:Gov.Yusuf orders establishment of water treatment plant in Rano

Rano, An aquifer has been discovered in the Taliwaiwai area in Rano Emirate,a rocky mountainous zone known for its long-standing mining activities.
This is contained in a statement issued by
the Spokesperson to Kano State Governor, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Dawakin Tofa said the discovery was a major breakthrough that could transform water access in Rano Emirate and surrounding communities, a significant underground water source.
He said the discovery was disclosed during the official visit of Gov. Abba Yusuf to Rano town.
The Governor, who was on an assessment tour, was received by top government officials and traditional leaders who welcomed the development as timely and impactful.
During a briefing, the state Commissioner for Water Resources, Umar Haruna Doguwa, told the Governor that the aquifer was discovered following the Governor’s directive to seek a sustainable solution to the persistent water scarcity that has plagued the Rano area for years, the statement said.
According to him, geological and hydrological experts conducted thorough assessments and confirmed the viability of the underground water source.
“This is not just a temporary fix. We now have a long-term solution that can provide clean and safe water to thousands of residents in this zone, ” Doguwa said.
The governor immediately directed the Ministry of Water Resources to begin the process of establishing a fully functional water treatment plant at the site.
The plant will be designed to treat and distribute potable water to Rano and neighboring communities, ensuring reliable access to clean water for domestic and agricultural use.
Yusuf described the discovery as a milestone achievement for his administration and reiterated his commitment to improving social infrastructure across the state.
“This is a testament to our resolve to address the basic needs of our people.Water is life, and we will not rest until every household in Kano has access to clean, safe, and sufficient water supply, ” he said.
He also assured the people of Rano that the state government will fast-track the design, funding, and implementation of the water project, while ensuring community involvement and environmental protection.
Recalls that the Emir of Rano, Amb. Muhammad Isa Umar, during the recent Sallah homage, sought the Governor’s support in addressing the recurrent water scarcity in Rano community.
Recalls that during opening of the 27th State Executive Council meeting recently, Kano Gov. Yusuf, vowed to do all it takes to address the challenges bedeviling the water sector in the state through the implementation of a strategic action plan and effective stakeholder engagement.
