Kano, Gov.Alhaji Abba Yusuf of Kano State has announced the passing of the Managing Director of the State Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB), Alhaji Ahmadu Haruna Zago.
The announcement is contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Thursday morning.
According to the statement,late Zago, popularly known as Dan Zago, passed on in the early hours of Thursday at the age of 74, after a protracted illness for which he was at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.
It said the late Dan Zago is survived by four wives, 37 children and many grandchildren.
The statement quoted family sources as confirming that his funeral prayer (Salatul Janaza) is scheduled to take place today by 1:00 p.m.at the Emir’s Palace in Kano, where family members, government officials, friends, and associates of the late ace politician are expected to gather to pay their last respects.
“Governor Yusuf expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Alhaji Zago as a dedicated public servant, a master political strategist, and a business mogul who played a key role in shaping the political landscape of Kano over the last 50 years.
“He further extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the people of Kano, praying for Allah’s mercy upon his departed soul.
“Alhaji Ahmadu Haruna Zago was a unique politician with massive grassroots support who served in various capacities, including State Chairman of the defunct ANPP.
“He was also a Political Adviser to a former Kano State Governor, a Special Assistant to a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, and a board member of many private companies within and outside Kano State,” statement added.
