The Kano State Government has announced its intention to commence the implementation of its policy on the state of emergency on education, starting with the New Girls Science and Technical College, also known as Governor’s College, Kano.

This decision was made by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf during an unscheduled visit to the school, where he assessed the condition of the facilities.

Governor Yusuf expressed disappointment at the level of decay and neglect he observed, including classes without essential furniture and equipment, and a shortage of teachers in key subjects such as English and Mathematics.

He noted that the college, which was once a flagship institution under former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, had fallen into disrepair under the previous administration.

The Governor assured the people of Kano State that his administration is committed to revitalizing the education sector, stating that education is the government’s top priority.

He emphasized that the policy on the state of emergency on education will be pursued vigorously to reposition the sector for the betterment of the people of Kano.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Umar Haruna, welcomed the Governor’s visit and stressed the need for urgent intervention in the school to ensure a brighter future for the students.
